Whether you are taking a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway or taking a weekend getaway, Capitola is a beautiful California beach town. It is apart of the Monterey coast. The photograph above is of the Venetian Hotel. This historic landmark from the 1920′s is now a boutique hotel full of contemporary charming beach bungalows. The hotel is also on the main strip walking distance to shops, cafe’s and restaurants.
If your okay with stepping out for a short drive or long stroll, there is an amazing boutique style restaurant called the Shadowbrook. Being someone who has traveled all over the world this restaurant in itself is a site to be seen. It’s like nothing else I have ever experienced. It has a magical storybook quality to it. The actual restaurant is almost like a elegantly lit giant tree house. Made from mostly wood and glass with trees growing right through the floor as decor. It brings the nature from the outside into the inside magically and elegantly. The menu is New American fine dining and the drinks are specialty cocktails made with fresh ingredients. They of course have an amazing wine list , desserts and occasional live entertainment.
The next beach over is Santa Cruz. For a change of scenery you may want to drive over there. It’s a more festive beach full of street musicians and a carnival style boardwalk.
California is an amazing place. The coastline is beautiful and Capitola is one of my favorite stops.
